Anyone do a temporary toenail removal procedure and have success keeping fungus away? Podiatrist says high rate of fungus returning after temporary removal.

I had two removed, one had severe fungus and one wasn't as bad as the other The really bad one came back but the other one didn't I was pregnant so I couldn't put anything very strong on them, I think if I had been able to put stuff on it I would have had a better chance

I had a partial/temporary nail removal on both big toes. I had 5-6 layers of nail on each of them and he removed all but the base layer on each, and buzzed/buffed the bottom layer down. But he’s not having me on a topical antifungal. He has me on an oral antifungal (Terbinafine) on and off over the next year…on my “off” months, I’m getting laser treatments. So I’m really hoping this type of treatment helps keep the fungus away. I don’t want to do this again.
