Edited to remove me saying I had x-rays as I've not had any since before my op Hi all. I had MIS, no hardware, NHS UK back in July. I've hit 4 weeks now and it's going well. I've had one appointment at 3 weeks to remove bandages and the surgeon said see you in 6 months! From week 3-5 I am taping my toes to ensure stability of the big toe. Has anyone else in UK had similar aftercare. I expected more check ins and x-rays sooner them 6 months. Also next week I can loose the surgical boot and try a shoe. I wear Altra anyway but does anyone have any advice on this stage or any footwear suggestions. Thanks

Hi, I’ve just had corrective surgery MIS at the end of July, based in UK. On leaving hospital I had a surgical shoe, had my stitches out at 2 weeks. Week 4 for I’ve just transitioned into Mazuno wave rider went up a full size and wide fit. I’m going back at 6 weeks post op for xray and to see the consultant and then in my itinerary it says I’ll be seen again at 6 months! 3.5 years ago I had both feet done left foot was a success however right foot had other ideas which is way I’ve resulted in having surgery again. That time I had open surgery on my feet and the healing process was much slower. Other footwear I’ve bought is a pair of new balance again a full size up and put an insole in the left shoe so my foot isn’t slipping and a pair of Birkenstocks with the heal support round the back, normal size and obviously you can adjust the front straps to how swollen your foot is. My consultant did say to not walk along way in the Birkenstocks as they don’t support the foot enough! Hope that helps 😊

wishing you a speedy recovery this time. Sounds like it's going well. I had dissolvable sutures and the tiniest entry point so from that point it's brilliant. I'll check out the footwear thank you.

I’m In uk I saw the pt before op and he gave a a sheet of paper which showed you how to use crutches- lol Have a 2 week appointment next week to remove stitches Another appointment in 4 weeks to see surgeon. All these appointments were given too me on operation day . I went nhs but could choose a private hospital ( to be fair , I’ve been seeing the same surgeon for 6 years now as had steroid injections for midfoot issues and he did a fusion 2 years ago) He’s already booked me in to get the other foot done next spring .

...I had my MIS surgery in late June, removal of bandages 2 weeks later and just confirmed today that my in person surgeon appointment will be Oct 2nd. On the discharge notes I was given there was an email address and number I could contact...but I haven't needed it. I think in the UK once you've had the op and the recovery is going okay...you're kinda left alone to give the bone time to heal...but I had similar concerns. I think you can contact the hospital or your GP if you have any concerns, but I think it's just a matter of doing the best we can.

I'm sure they know what they are doing and he was very chilled when I saw him at 3 weeks. He said next appt is 3-6 months and I had the appt through for a smidge over 6 months. I'll give them a call because his private website does say x-rays at 6 weeks but that may not be part of NHS pathway. Did you have any hardware? To my knowledge I have none but the information side of my care hasn't been great, the rest I can't fault. I suppose if the recovery is on track it's all good!
