Hello, hoping for some advice. Im getting bilateral surgery on the 8th October MIS. I will get given sandals and crutches. Can you recommend anything else I should buy to aid recovery. Any tips welcomed.

Crutches are tough. I loved my knee scooter

Shower chair and knee scooter have been a game changer for me!

A walker should work. The hospital might offer you one. Since it’s MIS, you might only need it for 2-weeks.

What sort of bilateral MIS surgery? And which country are you in? I’m asking as the protocols seem to vary wildly!

MICA - keyhole, cut through my bone and screw to realign then taking a small wedge out of my second toe so it leans back the right way

goldpeach25 I had bilateral scarf akin maestro with distal soft tissue release in the UK three months ago, and could weight bear (in the post op surgical sandals) from the day of surgery. I was sent home with crutches but only used them once. I have two screws in each of my first metatarsals and a staple in the long bone in each of my big toes. Best of luck with your surgery!!

goldpeach25 I’m doing well thank you. Have started a new job and am commuting into London a couple of days a week. I was late starting physiotherapy owing to a mess up with the insurer but now have a comprehensive set of exercises (which take a while owing to having to be sure to do both feet!). I’m starting back at gym classes - I still know I’ve had surgery but every day gets better. I initially used occasional ibuprofen and paracetamol for pain relief but luckily didn’t need any past about the three week mark. If you can, you might be able to see some of my previous posts from along the way. I’m super glad I had both done at once 😊

thank you I will look at you other posts. My consultant said I can be in the gym week 3 doing upper body. Im a runner so stressing about not being able to exercise
