8 weeks post op here. Still have a small section of scabbing where the incision was a little deeper. Pesky little booger. The peeling tho. Wasn’t expecting the self exfoliation of the foot!!

How many weeks post-op did your scab completely fall off?
How many weeks post-op did your scab completely fall off? I am 6 weeks post-op and still have a small portion of scab. I am allowed to get a pedicure when it has completely fallen off. I am, of course, letting it be there until it decides to fall off. But I wish it would hurry up. Mamma needs a pedicure.

Mine fell off at around 5.5 weeks, i was advised to put vaseline on to soften the scar which really helped!
I’m at nine weeks and still have some scabbing.
5. I kept mine covered with gauze and ace bandages and changed them out weekly. Nothing was applied to the site until the incisions were 100% healed at 5 weeks. Then I massaged All Good Goop in the top of my foot 3-5 times a day
The doctor ripped mine off at 7 weeks. I did get a pedicure at 8 weeks.
I had a stubborn part that wouldn't come off and my doctor pulled it off at 6 weeks. I'm 8 weeks now.
I had one scab that was holding on for dear life!! Parts were slowly lifting so I'd take cosmetic scissors and cut it off. At my 7 week there was a small bit still on and my doctor took it off 😂 Got my first pedicure a few days ago (just shy of 8 weeks!) I do russian pedicures which are waterless and she still had to be pretty careful but.. I bet your are so excited!! Can you find a dry pedicure tech somewhere near you?
I kept swabbing mine with betadine. At 8 weeks post--finally no scabs and was able to get pedi.
I’m 6wks post-op as well. The last portion of my scab finally came off 4 days ago. I still have some peeling skin though.
omg the peeling is unlike anything I've seen! I felt like a snake
8 weeks! I want my pedicure. 😜 There was a ton of dead skin after my dressing was removed at 4 weeks. But I just rolled it off gently in the shower. After a couple showers, it was gone.
Get Vitamin E oil and use 2x a day. I found it at Wal Mart. My therapist recommended it. It worked on the dry skin.
BeautifulWallaby7138 interesting how all docs are different. I asked if I should be putting Aquaphor or anything on it, and the PA said not to put anything on it until after the scab falls off.
I hope I do not have to wait that long!
that is so exciting that you got your first pedi! My PT trimmed off the parts that were hanging, just as you did yourself. But yes, one scab is definitely holding on for dear life, as you put it! 🤣 Great idea about the dry pedi! Does it feel so good to have your nails and cuticles trimmed? Did you start PT?
so odd. If your doctor sent a PT order to the PT clinic, they should not be asking you that. Maybe you could electronically ask your doctor’s office to send clarification to the PT? How is walking going? And wearing shoes? I can only tolerate sneakers for 6 hours before going back to Crocs! Yes, my cuticles are definitely overgrown, and I need a toenail trim desperately. So happy for you that your freshly pedicured feet feel great!
be kind to yourself and extra careful at in the evening. If your regular sneakers feel good, start transitioning to those a bit at a time. Start with an hour. Buy some lined Crocs to wear at home. I wear them with socks for even extra padding. My PT said that the Crocs are better than the surgical shoe because they let the foot bend. The Birks were not the right shoe at this point. That is ok. Next. 😜 It is hard for me to go from being super active to the current status, but it is a process. Sounds like you are having that challenge too.
yes I did! I had one session a couple of days ago. It went well, but they were asking me what my doctor allows etc and I feel like that should be made clear by the doctors office not me? I didn't feel fully confident so I scheduled a session that the PT that works closely with my doctor.. even though it's out of pocket for me i might feel better at least comparing the two. They said they have all my doctors notes and X-rays so we'll see! And yes it feels SO good, my cuticles were out of control I've never seen them like that, are yours out of control??
right that's so weird? I'll have to call them Monday. Walking has been good but now feels too squishy in the surgical sandal. I still haven't ordered the right sizes for shoes. Moving on from Birkenstocks now.. thinking to order hoka bondi and maybe crocs too? How many steps do you think you're walking per day? I find I get tired and a little unbalanced early morning and night time
I did not realize that you were still in surgical sandal. My doc and PT wanted me out of the ortho shoe because the foot could not bend in it. Have Birks been comfy? I am scared to have my toe exposed. Feels too vulnerable. I was wearing Hokas outside, and still sometimes wear them. Last week my PT told me to try my regular sneakers. Two of them felt too snug, put one pair felt great, my Stella McCartney for Adidas Ultraboost DNA. So I wear those when I go to PT. At home I wear fleece lined Crocs, which are so comfy, but I am too vain to wear them out. 😜 And it is nice to have house shoes that have clean soles anyway. I work from home and am only going out during the week to 3x a week PT and to walk the dogs around the block. My main exercise has been going up and down the stairs 20 to 30 times a day to get some movement. And 3x a week PT, where they have me doing a lot of movements in laps that becomes cardio and I break a sweat. I do not do iphone or iwatch tracking of steps. On the weekends, we usually run errands and eat a few meals out. My partner is away this weekend. So doing a couple get togethers with girlfriends that will not involve walking. What has your activity and being out and about been like?
same, I definitely need an outside and inside pair of shoes! The PT said the same thing, I told her that I've been able to wear shoes for a week but couldn't find any that fit well. The birks would have been perfect honestly, if my middle toe wasn't long. It bothers me too much to have it pressing against the hard edge, but was nice having a very sturdy bottom of shoe. That sounds so active an amazing!! I haven't felt like going out much except to some appointments and maybe quick errands like post office. I think I'll feel better once I'm in real shoes. It still feels uneven being in one sneaker and the sandal. Walking around the house has been fine. On a normal day prior to surgery, I easily get 7-10,000 steps just walking around the house so it's been interesting forcefully dialing that back. I mostly just feel unstable toward the end of the day and that's when mistakes for me usually happen. I moved to the knee scooter last night around 8pm for example and got up from the couch and totally missed the scooter so caught myself with none other than the ball of my surgical foot 😂🥲 feeling sore today so mainly using the knee scooter
hmm I maybe shouldn't do crocs, he told me he doesn't want me to bend the foot for 3 more weeks, I essentially need to walk flat footed.. the nurse recommended birks since it's such a stiff sole. Sigh, yes it's quite difficult to be so inactive. I just can't imagine there's people who are willingly sedentary. I feel so out of shape!!
maybe the flat foot walking requirement is why the PT was confused? A lot of PT involves getting your normal flexibility and gait back. I think you need to communicate with the doctor to understand what he wants you yo be doing re footwear and PT.
yea good thinking, we did a lot of other strengthening that didn't involve gait, strengthening some of the different muscles in the foot.. but I did think it was weird that the doctor didn't tell them that I couldn't put full weight on the ball of my foot (such as a calf raise) when he explicitly told me. Def going to call the doc Monday! I bet he's being extra cautious since I have the ossio fiber screw instead of titanium...
lucky you! Hoping I am not far behind!
Louise, about 6 days ago, I started massaging my incision site while moisturizing due to peeling skin. The lone scab was loose, but it wasn’t quite ready to come off at that time. After about 2 days of massaging, the scab was finally loose enough for me to gently peel it away. The tenderness is gone as well. I do have some tenderness in the base of my toes, though. I am now able to massage/moisturize the entire foot, including my incision, which is great because my skin is peeling where I feel it shouldn’t be. It’s even peeling in between my toes!
