I had my big toe fusion done may 27. Everything went well. I went the 30th and I was told is could walk without the boot. But every day that I walk without the boot my foot hurts more and more to the point i am now limping and dont even want to walk on it. I called the drs office and got told to give it more time. Shared post Louise Yogini 5 week update: Most of my scab has fallen off, and I am still getting used to looking at the new shape of my foot. With my PT homework, I have restored about 70 percent mobility in my toe, so that is coming along nicely. At my second PT session yesterday, we are working on balance and strengthening my ankle muscles. Since I can balance on my one leg with no problem on a regular floor, we moved the single leg balancing to on top of a foam mat. Also other exercises on a wobble board. I told the physical therapist that walking up stairs had gotten more normal, but that I was still going down the stairs like a toddler, with both feet meeting on one stair before going to the next. So we worked on rolling through the foot on a low stair. I can wear Hokas for 5 hours now before switching to Crocs. Walking around in the world has gotten easier, but living in a city, I am always scared that someone will step on my foot accidentally. So I am just careful about where I go. Overall progressing nicely after just 2 PT sessions, and i am scheduled for 3x a week PT now. I am especially happy about my toe mobility since my biggest fear before surgery was not being able to fo planks or lunges. My 11 year old daughter will be getting bunion surgery on her left foot. She is in constant pain, so it’s the next step. My question is: because she is younger, and very active, will she recover faster than an adult. I’m also worried about pain management; I do not want to pump pain pills in her, but also don’t want her to be in pain. Can she come off of these pretty quickly, with Advil/tylenol as the alternative? Realistic expectations for returning to school, etc. Anyone else have their child go through this.
