I'm sitting at about 27 days post-op since my MIS bunion surgery. I was recently asked what prompted me to have bunion surgery at all. About a year or so ago, I was walking with my then 4-year-old son, and towards the end of the day, I had an awful, throbbing pain on both sides of my feet by the base of my big toes that made this grown man want to cry. And that was the turning point. You have to remember, I've had my bunions since Judge Judy, first launched her syndicated show. There was no pain for decades. But I dismissed my growing discomfort and misdiagnosed myself with gout, until it got so bad that I was limited to wearing only one pair of shoes. I still have to learn to respect the value of patience because swelling is an absolute BEAST. But I'll use the Michael Bolton technique and apply some Time, Love and Tenderness. Social media is a weird place sometimes where people think it's a fight between MIS vs. traditional methods. That's not the actual reality. It's about finding the method that works best for your personal circumstances. We all know the world can be a little crazy... but EVERY human should have the right to walk pain-free. Be good to yourselves, my friends.

I went to the beach too! I was 6 weeks post op when I went (last week)! Glad you are enjoying the time! Swelling was an issue for me as well.

I just don't have the courage to do anything. Everybody that's on here that had the surgery has such courage! and the biggest hindrance of all you need help and I don't have anybody to help me on a daily basis with such a long recovery.

SupportivePear7503 It was a discussion I had with my surgeon prior. As my flight was only 2hrs, he suggested I could travel. His only advice was to walk up and down the plane isle on occasion. I was nervous! 😅 And I wore my orthopedic shoe, however, I had no problems during the flight. I leave tomorrow, but I do feel confident going home.

...I should have mentioned that in most cases I walked with my orthopaedic croc mules so never actually walked directly on the sand. There was no swimming (which was tough!) but I didn't want to risk any infection.

...that is a good question. 🤔 Truth be told...it was the pain that finally got me to pursue surgery...but...bunions are a structural issue so I think I still would have tackled them.

this is where I feel like I am. Not brutally painful but definitely uncomfortably, off balance. It makes the decision so much more difficult. I feel the deformity affects my entire gait.

...it took courage to have the bunion surgery in the first place and even more courage to do it on your own. You've got to give yourself grace and heal in your way. Take care of you my friend and I'm wishing you all the best for a strong and steady recovery. 🙏🏾💕❤️
