High, cushioning shoes aren’t great for hiking because they make it easy to turn your ankle on rocks or roots. I’d test a pair of Altras, Merrill’s, or other shoe designed for hiking and add an insert (try superfeet or power step) to support your arch.

I’ve been wearing OOFOS flip-flops everywhere.
I’ve been wearing OOFOS flip-flops everywhere. It provides cushion so I can even get out of bed first thing in the am without wanting to scream. I am about to have to walk up a mountain trail in NE to scatter my mom’s ashes. OOFOS offers a lace up shoe but I thought I should check here to see if there’s a consensus regarding OOFOS or some other lace up shoe for walking.

Altra's are best for PF as they have a wide toe base and transitional heel support. Check out Dr. Angela's site.
I’m using Oofos now and they help but I overdid it the first day being so excited to be able to walk again. So now I’m little more selective
I live in oofos slippers and flip flops at home but for working I wear new balance 830.. love all 3 equally
I have a slip in Oofos that I found at ross and I love them. I just ordered a new pair from their website, waiting for it to come in. The slip in shoe is my go to, so comfortable, im a fan for life. #oofos
I tried them out, actually 14 miles in one go, and I was in a lot of pain afterward but--I walked 14 miles with PF lol. I like them, but the cushioning makes it feel like less ankle stabiliity. I ended up returning them and going with Altra Paradigm 8s. But I will warn that they're zero drop and I'm used to zero drop shoes. If you're not, they may need some easing in to.
Topo for me works best
Merrell best brand for me 👣
You're going to tear up your feet on that walk.
I have been wearing the Altra Paradigm. They have been good.
This!
I love my Merrills
Whatever works best for each individual is what is best. All you can say is that a particular type of shoe is worth trying. It may be a great recommendation but, also, it might not work for that person specifically.
do you mean the 860’s?
Anonymous 32133213 Oogos at Ross?!?! What a great find
yes, ive combed other ross and I can't find any, just an ugly pair of slip ons that were way too small.
can someone with PF even walk 14 miles in one go? I’m happy for ya but shocked to hear.. 😃
yeeeeah I was in a lot of pain during some of it and definitely after lol. I’m fortunate in that the worst pain is when I first stand up but that if I walk a bit the pain subsides until a certain point. I’ve been dealing with this for a year now so I’m at the point where I push through it because I can’t just not live. Also, I try to use it very rarely, but on important days where I know I’ll be on my feet a lot I pop some Advil. Miraculously I just had two days where I felt no pain in one foot and I’m trying out everything I can think I did just prior to that to figure out what helped.
now I want me a pair of oofoos shoes!
Oofos, are probably the worst thing I bought for plantar facilitis,.. too soft and no support at all. Bought for over £100 and sold on a second hand site for £40,.. absolutely waste of money in my opinion..plus the soles are too soft and wear down very easily and they get stained beyond belief.
I use the Oofos lace up shoes and it’s very comfortable.
I found they hurt my foot vs give me support. Had to return them.
I’m now wearing ASICS Gel Kayano.
I have just bought some Meindl Merans (UK), they are the Meindl comfort foot range (I have very wide feet and it was wearing hiking boots that were too narrow (and too small!) that started off my PF). I have worn them once for a hike (only got them last week) and they were so comfortable, infact so comfortable that just putting them on gave me relief from my sore feet (we are all different of course). I did go to a specialist outdoor wear shop to get properly fitted and did explain that I had PF and they were very helpful.
Depending on how rugged the terrain will be on the mountain, you should probably invest in a trail shoe or even a hiking shoe/boot. You definitely don’t need the super squishy marshmallow feel under your feet because that won’t provide the stability and protection you’ll need along the way, so I’d stay away from a road shoe. If you enjoy the feel of your OOfos with the meta rocker feel and want to combine that feel with a trail shoe then check out the New Balance More. It’s still soft under your foot, but sturdy to withstand the elements and to protect your feet! Has a more weather protectant upper as well. It also accentuates the heel/toe motion through your foot like OOfos. If you need to kick it up a notch and get a hiking shoe, then I’d suggest some Hokas. Their hiking line up will be cushioned, but have more aggressive outsoles and a variety of heights around your foot/ankle: low, mid, high top. I have a pair of the Hoka Anacapa Mid GTX and they’re amazing! They’re gortex with a Vibram outsole. They literally feel like a road shoe that’s actually a hiking boot! They’re lightweight, but with longevity and cushioning! Maybe go to a REI or other outdoor store to explore some options because I don’t want to limit what you could try to only two styles. Just wanted to tell you some options that feel similar to OOfos on the foot. Also know that every style of OOfos is built with the same exact outsole. If you find a shoe or “boot” in their lineup, then it’ll be built on the same footbed as the slides/flips flops and probably wont accommodate your “hiking” needs. I just recently lost my mom as well. Grieving with you. 🫶🏼
This is so interesting homeward everyone’s different experiences. Oofoos make my foot hurt more. I tried but they just don’t seem to be a good option for me
I just ordered a pair on eBay. Excited to try them out.
Oofos have a lot of cushion. You’ll need to gradually increase the demands on your feet so you streangthen then AND allow them to heal. I hope the hike is not too far or demanding. If you can find a sneaker with a wide toe box, medium cushion for stability with comfort, then put in inserts as appropriate it may work. A shoe like Hokas with high cushion may be most comfortable but unstable and not enough grip for your hike. I’ve been using new balance walking shoes because of relatively low foot drop, wide toe box, they come in wides, and have medium cushion. That shoe is a possibility, or maybe one of the others is best. Add an insert — a dr shoals or similar may work fine. In the beginning with so much heel pain I needed max cushion in the heel. Now I’m not having pain, so I removed the orthotic with lots of heel cushion and I’m using one with a lot of arch support but no heel cushion. (that’s where I’m noticing pain after a few hours at work. I hope you can buy a shoe and wear it for say a hour or so well BEFORE your hike. That way you can exchange it for something else if you need to AND you can work your way up to a shoe with less cushion and less heel drop than other shoes. Either way pls do exercises to strengthen and wean yoiurself off of the Oofos slowly. They feel great, but won’t solve the underlying issue. I recommend Dr Angela also
IndigoBroccoli4611 agreed
The regular shoes didn’t work for me at all for walking around NYC but the slides worked great like always for recovery in the hotel after a day of walking in their shoes. So ugh 😑
I have Ryka hiking boots that are good but I’ve not tested going too far. Even with my Oofas at the end of the day my feet hurt.
I really like the oofoos tennis shoes and sometimes they go on sale for $50 end of season colors
Im wearing a pair now too. My podiatrist recommended
I love the slip on Oofos. No pain when I wear them. I bought a closed slip on and a lace up pair for the cooler weather. The only thing I have to advise is size up with the closed shoes. I am usually a size 7 but 8 fits perfectly
Depending on the trail, you might need hiking shoes. I have a pair of Oboz hiking shoes that I put my Vionic insoles in and that works well for me.
