I’ve dealt with PF on and off for about 6 years. Started out minimal and got steadily worse. Starting in 2025, it was to the point where I was hobbling. I tried hamstring stretches but that made it worse. Over time, it wasn’t just the aching under the heel, it was sometimes a burning pain and also a sharp, electrical shock behind the ankle bone. I visited a physio who recommended foot and ankle stretches and exercises performed before getting out of bed or before getting out of a chair after prolonged sitting. That helped quite a bit. But the thing that helped the most was better arch support. The physio pointed out that my Clarks shoes didnt have enough support for my very high arches. So I tried on Birkinstock Arizona sandals but the arch supports didnt hit in the right spot. However, when I stepped into the Maryari sandal my feet immediately let me know they were happy. Although the footbed is the same as the Arizona, the Maryari has a toe strap that pulls the foot ever so slightly forward. For me, that meant the arch support hits in exactly the right place. Now that cooler weather is here, when I need a closed shoe I still wear my Clarks but with an extra, removable arch support. Dr. Scholl makes one with a wide elastic strap that straps to the foot and allows you to place it exactly where needed. I place them under my socks and they stay in place nicely. Since making these changes in footwear I no longer need to do the foot stretches and exercises. I walk 98% pain free, just the occasional shooting pain behind the ankle bone but that seems to be resolving. I’ve gone from only walking short distances to walking 3-4 miles daily, sometimes as many as 7-8 miles. Pain free! My message is this: Keep the faith. Find what works for you. The solution may be simpler than you think.

Go up or down one size in the Arizona’s or other strapless Birks, and you might find it fits better. I wear a 40 wide and have for oner 40 years. My ex bought me new 41 wide at a yard sale once and they hurt my feet horribly. The arch was not in the right place. Even a 40 narrow does not fit my feet right and the arch is off so maybe you need to go up or down in width. I use Naots if I have to wear dress shoes or heels they also have a cork arch support.
Can’t really go down a size because toes would hit the lip on Birkenstock footbeds.
maybe try up a size to se if that hits your arch better— just a thought
Tried that but then way too big.
Chiming in that the stretches of the foot before getting out of bed and after long sitting has really been helping!
Great!
