In about a month Monday May 25th I go to the orthopedic surgeon and have this fixed.

Raised loo seat is very handy. Hot water bottles to freeze & put behind your knee to reduce swelling. Wide leg trousers you can put on over boot/plaster. Waterproof leg cover for once you can have a shower & shower stool.

I'd definitely suggest getting the wheelchair for the first month, it helps a lot if you need to get around, crutches is what I've been using but I also know a lot of people have found a lot of freedom with the knee scooter. With the elevation leg rest, you could just use some pillows to create a good amount of elevation. I usually have two stacked then one long one on top of that at an angle. I definitely recommend getting general anaesthetic as well as nerve block. My first surgery the nerve blocked failed in one foot and worked in the other. I was in so much pain in the foot that the nerve blocked didn't work. Then in my second surgery they did a nerve blocked of my whole leg and that helped a lot again I was in a lot less pain and discomfort to begin with. Good luck with your procedure! If you get a chance, see if you can ask what procedure they are planning on doing and get a second opinion to make sure it's the correct procedure for your circumstance!

I got a shower stool and boot cover. I used the boot cover for the three weeks I was in a surgical splint as well as when I was in the boot. I couldn’t have showered without the stool.

I had GA and a nerve block it last 3 days I had no pain. All the best. UK NHS

I didn’t using crutches at all. I bought 2 scooters- one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Epidural if you can only choose 1. If you can choose both general anesthesia/sedation and an epidural is even better.

How much daily pain have you been in to make the decision to go for the surgery?

I have no idea how old you are but I am 61. Crutches were a no go for me as I fell with them. I got a rollabout to use instead. Knee scooters are pretty easy to tip over. It definitely sounds like you are much better planned than I was. One thing I didn't see others mention is something waterproof to put over you leg and a shower chair. It was so nice to take one every other day. You are going to do great!!

Ouch I have surgery March 12, 2026. I’m past six weeks recovery doing well gonna go Monday x-ray one screw Holding bone fused 

I bought a wheel chair because it was not that expensive and actually less than renting one for several weeks. I was lucky tohave my husband help to get me thru doorways etc. I had a knee scooter but it was too hard to use on thick carpet. I was too uncoordinated (or too old) to use crutches. I had a raised toilet seat with handles and a walker for later.

Can I ask are you having fusion and plates, also are they fixing your 2nd toe at same time. Is osteoarthritis present. As im in same position km i terested in what recovery yoh expdct- nwb or heel only weight bearing

And…ice pack with Velcro strap from Amazon. The knee rover is very good but you can ask on Next Door. Lots of people have them sitting in their garage. I liked the elevation pillow rather than several pillows as they tend to scatter constantly needing fixing
