Pain help! Seems like a lot of people stop pain meds after a few days, I had a pain pump that last 3.5 days after surgery. Now I feel hardly any pain where the "cutting" of the bone was, but man is the nerve pain/prickling/blood rushing so painful! It feels like my foot is burning any time I get up to just use the restroom and stays burning for like 45 min after laying down. For that alone I need pain meds and I'm day 6 post op and thinking I need to ask for a refill. I still take ibuprofen between and no, ibuprofen alone doesn't help. Did yall feel the same? Maybe I have a low pain tolerance. See less

I’m now on day 12 and I’ve still been taking the pain meds in the evening. Also using Tylenol. I heard that ibuprofen can slow bone growth, but I plan to ask my doctor about that tomorrow.

The throbbing is intense a good 4 weeks while foot wasnt elevated

Day 5 post surgery.. realistically how long after surgery did you have your foot elevated? My doctor said the first 3 days is most important so I was out of bed to shower and do a few things in the kitchen and my foot is throbbing so bad I had to go right back to the bed. I just don't see how I can be out of the bed/elevating/icing much any time soon. I had distal metatarsal and akin osteotomy See less

Roth Elevating is really important. I elevated probably 90% of the time the first 6 weeks.

Listen to your body - everyone is different. I would say you need to elevate as much as you need and depending on how much activity you’re doing. It was hard for me to not move much, but if I ever overdid it, my foot would start swelling up causing more pain and would be a reminder that I needed to rest and elevate.

I hope your recovery goes well! For me the pain was just starting and it woke me up so I did take a pain med right then and ate 1/2 of a banana because I didn’t want to get sick just in case my stomach didn’t like taking it on an empty stomach.

Hi all, my minimally invasive surgery is Thursday (distal metatarsal and akin osteotomy) with nerve block. Curious when everyone started their pain meds? Like right after surgery or towards end of first day before it wears off? I know it's important to get ahead of the pain just wondering if I should be "saving" them for when the nerve block wears off? Any other tips you have is much appreciated! I have a cold therapy machine, dou

I started my pain meds while sitting in recovery and took them with alarms set every four hours the first three days and every six hours days 4-5. Wasn’t gonna FAFO as to when the nerve block might wear off
