Raynaud's and Bunion Surgery: I got my hair cut yesterday and my stylist told me she decided to have bunion surgery. Here is the catch, she has Raynauds and I warned her to get a second opinion and talk to her rheumatologist about this also. The thing that surprised me most was her podiatrist told her NOT to tell the scheduler she has Raynaud's. That was a huge red flag right there when she told me that. Has anyone here had bunion surgery while having Raynaud's? I told her I would ask as she isn't on FB. Thanks in advance. Her foot looks much like the one I attached.

Raynaud’s can involve significant blood-vessel constriction, so circulation and wound healing should be considered before elective foot surgery. Her rheumatologist should ideally be involved in the pre-operative assessment, especially if she has severe Raynaud’s or another underlying connective-tissue condition. I would not proceed with an elective bunion operation until she has received an honest explanation of the risks and alternatives. The discoloration in the photo could have several causes, and a photo alone can't determine whether circulation is adequate👨‍🔬

DO NOT go to a podiatrist !! She has to go to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in feet.

Had lapidus bunion surgery on aug 2025. I still have a non union. Yes I have raynauds!

Yes, I had bunion surgery/tendon release of second toe, and have Raynauds and Ankylosing Spondylitis. Everything went fine for me and I haven't had any problems other than everything took a little longer to heal and I had to make sure to wear double socks in winter to stop my Raynauds being triggered too much. My foot does feel stiff when waking up, but nothing a bit of movement doesn't fix. 🙂

I did! I had to go on medication after the surgery, because my Raynaud’s afterwards was so bad. It didn’t hinder the healing of my bones, but it may have affected the recovery of my tissues and nerves.
