Review of the Sklar Bunionectomy Hey! I was born with bunions (thanks Dad for that one!) and underwent the Sklar bunionectomy with an Akin as well as tailor's bunion surgery by Drs. Sklar at Foot First Podiatry back in about 2018 (not at the same time). These pics are the most recent I have from this past year of follow-up when I finally got some screws out. When I was getting bunion surgery, I really wanted to be pain free with good function, but as a young woman I also wanted something that would be cosmetically beautiful. At the time, I was also finishing up undergrad, so I really wanted to spend the least amount of time in bed with a cast on. I went to one podiatrist who wanted to fuse me with an incision over the top of my foot and make me nonweightbearing for weeks. My dad begged me to visit Foot First and get a second opinion after hearing about them on the radio. I walked (limped) out of the surgery center with a surgical shoe and in about 3 weeks I was in gym shoes again. I can honestly say that this surgery was life-changing. I loved the doctors and their work so much that I went back to school and recently graduated as a podiatrist, too! Hoping that one day I can change lives as much as they changed mine
