Hi guys! I’m new to this group and don’t have typical bunions. I believe I have tailor bunions because I have painful bones that stick out on the outside of my feet and my pinky toes basically piggy back on my other toes. They’ve started getting more and more painful. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome so I have an extremely high arch and tiny (non-existent) heels. I’m trying to find tennis shoes that actually have a wide enough toe part not to rub on the bunion. I have Brooks and although the toe is pretty wide, I think I need it even wider. I also wear inserts so that tightens up every shoe. I’ve heard about Hokas, extra wide New Balance and some others. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have Taylor's bunion and I ended up developing a hammer toes in both Pinky's. I was wearing hokas with orthotic, which was making things even more painful on my pinky toes. I did physio, Chiro, acupuncture and spend two hours a day stretching and strengthening my feet. I'm not out of orthotics completely and wear altra lone peaks. I wear a met pad under my arch and wear correct toes. My hammer toe, which was flexible on my right side is back to normal and my left side is way better. I no longer have any rubbing on my Taylor's bunion and because of this it hasn't continued to grow.

I also am doing all that. It is months new. Can you wear your correct toes all day? Did you buy a size or two larger shoes? I am wearing bend low birks (they look a little nicer) but have heard Altra’s are very wide toe, REI destination. I am also incorporating exercises I have seen here and yoga stretches. I do hope it works.

yes, I wear my correct toes all day. No, larger shoes, just wider. I also purchased a shoe stretcher to stretch out shoes near the pinky toe.

With EDS, you will want to support the joint. Taping is a very effective way to do so. There is a video on my youTube channel showing you how to easily do so the channel is called Natural Foot Treatment with DL Walker. I will also be teaching live this Sunday and next on how to treat problems on the outside region of the foot many of which originate at the lower leg and arch of the foot.
