I had hammer toe surgery at the same time as my arthrex minimally invasive surgery. Went to the doc 6.5 weeks post op and he told me implant in the hammer toe cracked and I have to have removed. Scheduling surgery on Monday. And this happened to anyone else? I was so shocked that I did not ask enough questions. He said it will now be like broken toe surgery. Remove implant and put a kwire in. He said I could walk - did I hear right??? Ugh!

Thank you! I don’t recall any trauma to the toe at all. He said would not have happened from walking. Removal is scheduled for 3/26. Hopefully pin will be removed on 4/19 as I have a trip planned on the 20th!

Sorry to hear that! I think you’ll end up fine. I do surgery without using hardware on hammertoes every day. Biggest issue will be lack of movement and scar. Unfortunately, implants can fail, or become irritable. They may need to be removed. Best of luck!

Hi had a bunion op last July and put pins in my hammer toe but unfortunately it didn't work

did they have to remove implant? How did they correct hammertoe?

Hi they put pins in and they were removed in 6 weeks but my hammer toe isn't fixed still the same

I think I will need another op on the hammer toe but said on my last appointment that they would only do one foot at a time so the hammer toe will have to wait until I get my op on my left foot
