Has anybody ever had there toenail hurt but haven't seen a actual ingrown toe nail? If so what did you do to get rid of the pain without losing the nail, like what over the counter creams or antibiotics did you use to completely rid of the pain that don't cause damage and is safe? Don't want to lose a toenail so how does a person go about keeping the nail but getting rid of the discomfort and pain? Trying to wear open toe sandals to keep pressure off the toe and keeping it from rubbing. No rude comments please.

And trust me on this, the pain relief of getting them removed properly is much better than any home remedy you could do. I had mine for like 6 years before the pain finally had me in tears.

Kohm clippers. You may have a little sharp piece of nail sticking in the corner. See a podiatrist. They apply a quick spray and easily get it out. Then you can use the clippers to keep your nails in check.

I have in growing toenails but, I keep them in check by rubbing a nail file on the centre of your toe nail, as soon it starts itching or feels uncomfortable on the sides of your toe. This thins the nail, hence the growth stops pushing outwards as the centre is the area of least resistance. My doctor suggested this 10 years ago, apologies if practice has changed since.

Toenails have been a real trial for me. Many years ago, I had a bad left big toe nail, and it took years of running to the dr before it was treated. Eventually the nail was permanently removed and there was both an ulcer and tumor under the nail, which those healed. But where my toenail used to be it still is as painful as previously. I’ve been xrayed many times and theres nothing wrong with the bone in the toe. My right big toe nail was giving me fits for decades but hard to describe the problem except ”pain”; the podiatrist had no idea what to do as she said it wasnt ingrown, but she decided to do an ingrown toenail procedure on both sides which permanently removed a sliver. That procedure fired up horrendous toenail fungus in all nails on that foot. That was two years ago, and the toenail seems like the surgery is just healing now, but its even more painful than the original problem. I cant see what might be wrong with it. I dont have any answers, just empathizing with you as it‘s very aggravating when you can’t find answers.

I'd get it looked at because you may have an infection.

If you get the ingrown removed by a podiatrist you still have your toenail. I had it removed, it came back so my doctor did surgery on both sides of the toe. I think my nails are still healing from the trauma of surgery, its been almost 3 months.
