Is there any hope at all im wayyy to afraid of the shot to numb it i had to get injections in my thumb for stitches and cried like a baby it hurt so bad and now im way to scared to have this removed its been there a long time but nothing works. Forgot to add dr didnt want to do med bc can cause liver damage or something but they never tried anything else but I cant go though the numbing injection to get it removed.

You might get some temporary success on the oral medications but they can wreck havoc on the rest of your body. Also most people get it back after stopping the med. With that being in the nail Matrix it looks like removal might be the only option
Oral terbinafine only thing that works i had it years nothing worked and it spread .Doctor prescribed these tablets now I'm all clear .I had monthly blood tests for my liver .

You can always try a conservative method.
I highly doubt you have been to a podiatrist because a reputable podiatrist would already have had that trimmed. When you said “tried everything” what does that means? Some people try different home remedies for couple of months and say have tried everything. Your nail needs to be trimmed and treated, what are you using for this? Docs really don’t care much about this, not sure where you live but find in your area a very good podiatrist with lots of reviews and try for at least 2 years their protocol. Just avoid the laser ones. This nail looks neglected. Also you need to cut your nails to avoid the, infected from the bad one. Have different nail clippers for those and use disinfectant every nail. Is not going to disappear miraculously, you need to care and treat. This nail does look very infected but not treated and neglected.

Do you have a nail salon grade nail file? You can get a decent one that isn’t too expensive on Amazon. Filing down the nail and treating it helps tremendously to. You will have to continue filing it constantly while treating it. Doing that with antifungal creams + Vic’s (at different times of day) should help.
And your other nails look so great! Have you tried Jublia? Some of my nails looked as bad as yours and it was the only thing to work. A prescription topical (because I could not tolerate the oral med). Thanks for sharing your experience with toenail removal, my doc made it sound like a walk in the park and wasn't offering local anesthesia.
Anonymous member 968 ya i wasn't even givin option for meds gave me something to paint on it came off once but it came bk same I guess. I probably should have went in when nail was off but Im sure they would have done injection
me_names_dave How long have your nails stayed clear after the Terbinafine?
husband took the full course and the worst three nails improved very much but not completely. A year later they are now worse than they were prior to the medication. Ugh.

they didnt want to do the pills yes I did see a podiatrist they said the meds wasn't worth the risk of liver damage over a toenail they shaved it down or grinded it down gave me this polish to do didnt do anything. Nail completely fell off and now back. Then said next step was removal like I had no other options.
CVS sells a spray that I think works good. It’ll last about a week as a spray. It looks like a small can with a nozzle.
I just learned about NO Wonder (nitrous oxide) toenail fungus gel, I’m going to try it.
I had a fungus under my big toe and I put Vick’s on it twice a day got about 8 months and it got rid of it . It does work Oh try and keep your nail trimmed so you can cut off the fungus

Try Vicks might work

Anonymous member how long you did the nail polish and which one did you had? You usually need to treat the nail every two days and for two years.
my dermatologist prescribed jublia also. Said it was the only topical that worked. After doing research I learned you have to keep the nail ground down for the medicine to reach. I purchased a power nail file from amazon and filed all the diseased nail off. I keep it filed down to the skin meaning I have no nail. I’ve been treating for four months twice a day and it has not returned. I will continue for a whole yr.
unfortunately I dont tgink my insurance will cover jublia.

I filed initially, but as the fungus cleared (it does take time) I no longer have to do that. They are nearly back to normal now.

Anonymous member Mine does, but with the current way Medicare Advantage plans schedule things, I pay a LOT upfront, less by the end of the year.
mine wouldn't cover it either and then I found bausch and they have a plan where they will cover it for free. Once you give them your script then they take it to their pharmacy and ship it to you.
Wiley_cat6863 my derm who prescribed it found me a pharmacy that would charge less only when it arrived it wasn't even Jublia, but some other stuff that did nothing. So I just use GoodRX, but it's still so expensive.
