It looks like I need to go to a podiatrist, and I'm scared. I hate medical things. What can I expect from my appointment? My problems are persistent toenail fungus, ingrown toenails that have become infected at least once (the big toe on my left foot may be infected now - that toenail suddenly hurts when I walk. I will be looking into that shortly). I also struggle with foot pain when I stand or walk - it feels to me as if the bones are pressing into the floor too hard, or something. Thank you for any information you can give me. It will be way easier to move ahead with getting treatment for this if there aren't as many "unknowns."

I get it—podiatrist visits can be nerve-wracking, but it’ll be more straightforward than you think. They’ll check your toenails, likely trim the ingrown ones, and take a look at your foot pain. You might get antifungal treatment and maybe some custom stridesoles for the pain. They’ll just walk you through it, and it’ll help get you back on track. You’ve got this!

I've only been to a podiatrist twice. Mine was for foot pain, none of the other issues you've mentioned. I've never liked strangers prodding and poking but the gentleman I saw was brilliant. He talked to me in a friendly way, asking me to explain my issues. Took a few measurements and did some manipulation of my feet to help with a diagnosis. He then sent his recommendations to my GP. Thanks to him my GP finally did something about referring me for tests and treatment. Be brave. That first step through the door is the first one towards treatment and hopefully the end of your issues. Good luck.

I would say a podiatrist is your best bet...the sooner the better. Try soaking your feet in hot as you can stand water with epsom salts in. Just plain Epsom salts nothing with a scent. When you are done soaking dry your feet incredibly well...that includes between the toes. This may give you a bit of relief until you can see a podiatrist in person. Where I live in north eastern BC Canada they say there isn't enough work for a podiatrist to be living up here so we get one from 14 hour drive away every 2 or 3 months. I need to see him because my bunions are starting to cause me pain. Trouble is he's going to be in my town in Nov but he's all booked up. He should be back here Jan/Feb but hasn't put out his schedule yet. I am lucky that there is a clinic that does diabetic foot care including ingrown. I hope you get some kind of relief soon.
